Well last night was just a regular night out here in Sicily, Etna decided to blow off more than steam and let out some of her red hot love juice. Like I said previously it is a common occurrence for this to happen... at first I thought it was just thunder since we had stormy weather the past week or so. DH and I grabbed our cameras and headed to the balcony. From here we were able to see the top, but not so great for pictures. So we drove down the road about 5 minutes to a spot where we could get a clear shot. We could see the lava shooting out straight up into the sky and the booming was really loud..it was surreal to say the least...it is quite enchanting and a bit mystical living on a volcano, like the Island is a living being and gets angry and has moods and everyone gets affected by her. Sometimes its like Lord of the Rings and Mordor is off in the distance taunting us. (hehe) It seems like the volano always has her biggest eruptions at night too...because earlier that day we had driven up to the top again and had lunch there! And then a few hours later she decides to go off. Phew...that was close. This was a small eruption, but still a pretty good amount of lava flow. And no ash rain! yay. Here are some pictures that DH got of the lava flowing down. He has a tripod and a really nice camera and lens so I let him get the pictures of the volcano...haha. ya I let him! :)
So here are the pictures from last night...just two lovers and their barnacle (will explain this term soon) out chasing lava...
Oh my, those shots a spectacular! Thanks for sharing them.
ReplyDeleteGreat to see you guys! Not sure why my comments arent showing up. Love the pics, the lava is crazy. Is that a 70 200 mm lens your DH is using in the night shots?
