Well, like I said Etna erupts 1-3 times a month and today marks the first eruption for this month of March. We live so close to the mountain that sometimes when it is a big one we can hear the rumbling. Here is a link to a website with webcams all around Etna:
See the Volcano
What blows my mind also is that right at this moment as the volcano is spewing out lava there are people skiing and sledding down the erupting volcano. Pretty crazy. Here are a couple I snapped on our balcony, you can see how close we are to the volcano. If I drive out to the main street I could see the whole mountain but I don't have a car today...these will have to do for now!

Rumble Rumble... |
It sounds like thunder and the sound of an earthquake smashed into one. Earthquakes don't make a sound you say? I beg to differ my friends, being born and raised in Southern California you KNOW the sound and feel of an oncoming earthquake. No bueno...and I'm a scaredy cat to top it off. I am also a believer that the apocalypse of our world is eminent...whether it be in my lifetime or the next or the next thousand lifetimes...(probably a lot closer than we think...according to my calcualations...) so the fact that I live so close to a volcano helps the horrific fantasy that goes on in my head that much more vivid. What's worse...lava, or zombies? Lava that turns you into a zombie?!? Lava being the only salvation from a zombie apocalypse? I could go on and on...Either way this is how I would like to be if our world ever turns into such a disaster in my lifetime:
|
Who wouldn't want to look this good fighting off zombies? Do you think there will be a store that sells "zombie killing pantyhose w/gun holster attachment"? |
Anywho, back to reality. I can prepare for the lava/zombie apocalypse during my downtime. (Please tell me when that is again?) For the next day and night our family expands by 8 furry legs, we will have some playmates staying the day and night while our human friends have a little getaway. Meet Gracie:

What are you hiding..? |
|
Oh... |
|
She found a binkie. She can keep it... |
She is the cutest puppy ever. So sweet and docile. She is a Sicilian mix puppy who was rescued with her 3 siblings at Christmas time. An Italian lady had left them in a box by the dumpster when they were about 3 weeks old. DH's boss happened to see the whole thing happen right by his house and he couldn't just let those puppies freeze to death! So he took them all in. They have been fostering them until now, 3 of the 4 have been adopted out. Gracie is the last one and they are debating whether on keeping her or finding her a home. What an angel.
And here is Bella.
|
She belongs in a Dr. Seuss book! |
They got her last year when she was a puppy and has been part of the family ever since. She gets along well with our two pitbulls, Margo and Klaus. Not so much at first, Klaus wasn't so open to a new little furry friend but they soon became buddies!

Margo wishes she could be free... |

Can't forget these two little legs.! |

Or... |

...this lil tushie! |
Have a wonderful day/night/afternoon/morning wherever you are in the world friends, hopefully my next post isn't about how we are fleeing the Island because of Etna's next biggest eruption that destroys the Island of Sicily...
(don't worry it is highly doubtful)
(ok, just doubtful.)
( I have mentioned before that I can be quite the dramatic...)
Uh oh...going to walk soon.
ReplyDeleteuh oh is right!
ReplyDeleteI say DH goes out and buys you that whole outfit now....
ReplyDeletewhat man wouldn't want his woman walking around looking like that all day???
Love the writing....love the photos....you're so funny.
Never a dull day in Sicily, now wonder those people drive like nuts - any moment Etna may blast them off the road.
I've got to frame the last photo of the bottoms up-so cute...and I really laughed at the dog pics...Margo has always wanted to be Dora the Explorer.
What a great post! My friends over at Skywatch Friday (http://skyley.blogspot.com/) would flip out over your volcano shots!! You should consider linking up, they would love it. Seems impossible, but Z just keeps getting cuter. Sitting here at LAX waiting for my flight laughing at the pic of Bella! People around me are giving me strange looks... I think I need some lava protection.
