Leaving...on a jet plane

Today is:

last night in Sicily.
too excited to sleep.
everything packed up and ready to go.
anxious about the long flight across the world.
anxious for Zoe on the long flight.
playing over and over in my head the first moment seeing my parents, Eric's parents, my brother.
thinking of precious people I will miss dearly.
Teresa...I love you, thank you for being my friend....see you when I see you...probably soon :)
Del'Arte family...Ivana, Ines, Daniela, Pippo, Giovanni, Danilo, and little Ilenia...you are in our hearts forever.

Here in Sicily true love was born and resurrected when all was thought to be lost.

This American werewolf is going to need a new blog name.

Ciao.

Last Days

These are the last days her little feet will pitter-patter around the Sicilian earth.

The house we brought her home to from the hospital almost 2 years ago will be thousands of miles away...never to be revisited, except through stories and pictures.

Someday maybe when she is grown she will travel the world and revisit this foreign place to where she entered the earth.

I told myself I wasn't going to be emotional...but how can I not?

10 days, feels like 1000.

10 more days, going by at a snails pace...

trying to keep ourselves busy on Eric's days off....we went to the pool the other day, the weather is getting cooler but still warm enough to take a quick dip in the pool.

Soon we will be home, riding our bikes to yoga while Zoe plays with her grandparents...

Eric will be surfing in the mornings,  Zoe and I will be baking with grandma...

Maybe Eric and I will actually go to a movie theater and watch a movie...I can't tell you the last movie we saw in a theater.  Wait, yes I can.  LAST year Christmas time when we were home.

Excited to see Book of Mormon at the Pantages in Hollywood, it will be a fun dress-up date for us..last year we went on a date and ate at Koi and then went to see Wicked.  It was great, a homeless man complimented me on my shoes and dress.  (I don't know if that is good or not.)

Lot's of things to look forward to....taking Zoe trick-or-treating in her super cute costume...just don't know if Eric and I will dress up or not!

Most of all though, among all these things we want to do, we are just looking forward to being home, with family.  Talking to them face to face instead of through a computer screen...

Wait for us dear friends and family...we are coming soon.

And now, Zoe and I in the pool.

Happy Hump Day!

If you haven't yet, check out the link on the right to go see Eric's project that will be starting as soon as we get home!!

Woe is me.

Ugh.

Hair woes.

I always have them.

Actually, the only time I can remember being happy with my hair is when i was pregnant, it was long and thick and healthy.  Then I went and jacked it up.  I got a bad coloring job, so I had to chop it off shoulder length...my good friend Dora is a stylist, and she cut it super cute when we were home last year but then recently about a month ago I decided to give it a little trim again, and it was back to shoulder length.  But the barber shop on base is not exactly salon quality...I felt like an unloved barbie doll whose 3 year old owner took some shears to...just not pretty. I should just listen to Eric...he tells me to just leave it...but you girls know how it is, you get that itch to do something to your hair thats different...to make you feel a little prettier or just for some change.

Its not that I have super thick hair, I just have A LOT.  Like...enough hair for 2 people. Maybe 3. This is not an exaggeration.  So its kind of hard when I wake up in the morning, and have a super puffy fro-head, and don't have time to straighten it so all I can do is pull it up in a bun.

Me every morning. minus the gray. A little less frizz. For reals.

So now, we are going to be home in 2 weeks and one of the things I NEED to do is some hair therapy.  I've been debating if I should just wait a few more months for all the layers to grow out...and deal with the fro...and then go somewhere I trust to get just a TRIM and let it continue to grow out.

OR...

Just cut it ALL OFF and start fresh.

I know, I've said before...I swore to never ever cut my hair shorter than shoulder length ever again. But browsing through pictures on the interwebs is kind of making me wonder if I can pull of a short pixie cut.  I did it once in 8th grade, it wasn't exactly how i wanted it to be. (no I didn't want to look like a mushroom, thank you.) I wish I had a picture....but now that I'm older and can find somewhere/someone who is tried and true professional pixie hair cutter certified...maybe it will be better the second time around. What do you guys think? It's pretty daring...and if it turns out bad, well...it would actually be more suprising if it turned out exactly how I wanted it.  Yet, I still yearn to chop of these hairs that cause me so much UGH.  Here are some hairstyles I really like.

What do you guys think??

Ya. I just might go and pull a Miley Cyrus.

Apple of my eye

This is a completely random and pointless post but. Here goes...

Lately, I've been eating a lot of apples.  Like, I CRAVE apples on a daily basis..and if I see that we are down to 1 in the fridge I kind of maybe have a little panic attack.  Why? I don't know. It's quite odd you see....They have almost become my new chocolate.  Then I thought of a scene from one of my favorite movies of all time that pretty much sums up how I feel every time I bite into one.

Thank you, Emile Hirsch.

Farewell, Trecastagni.

Today is our last day here in this little mountain town we have called home for the past two years.  Tomorrow the movers will come and pack up all our things in big crates to be shipped over to the States on a boat. This could take up to 2 months.  Luckily we won't be needing any of it for awhile though, as my in-laws have been so gracious to put a roof over our head until we have a place of our own...although I wouldn't mind living with my mother and father in law forever!! It will be nice to be there through the holiday season, my MIL decorates so nicely and methinks it will be a great time for Zoe.

(And me too. 2 christmases ago when I was there before coming out to Sicily she put a glowing snowman snowglobe in the room with me...one night their cat was sleeping under the bed, unbeknownst to me, and decided to slowly and creepily crawl out and make weird cat noises...if I didn't have the light from that sweet glowing snowman I might have thought my worst fears had come true and a ghost was there to kill me in my sleep.  However, when I looked over and saw two glowy cat eyes staring up at me, my heart started to beat again and at that moment I had never been so happy to see a cat in my entire life. I swear that cat knew my deepest fears...she was out to get me.)

Sorry for that huge sidenote. Moving on now....

Although we move out of our house tomorrow we don't get to go back to the states quite yet, we will be living in a hotel for the next month in a town called Motta Sant' Anastasia. We will be about 10 minutes from base as apposed to 45 mins.  This town has been dubbed 'Little America' since most military families that arrive here to Sicily will live here until they find a permanent residence or just stay in Motta or live on base.  The streets in Motta are like San Francisco, really steep and narrow...I have a hard time driving stick but I will have to manage this last month!! I may or may have not stalled more than once driving through Motta...which is why i try to avoid driving through Motta all together.  One more month of driving stick...I can do this...!!

Anyways, Eric (I'm kind of done with the whole DH thing.  Not that he isn't my dear husband...I just like Eric much better :P) took some pictures of Zoe and I walking around town for our last time today, the weather was nice and breezy and sunny.  We had a storm attack yesterday with thunder and lightning and heavy rain drops, it was kind of nice...it made for a lovely walk today with all the clean air and fluffy white clouds in the sky.  We stopped for one last time into the cafe and got some granita...this is a treat that is only made in Sicily, its like shaved ice but its SO shaved that it's smooth almost like gelato... it is SO good.  Almond granita is my favorite, with some dark chocolate granita mixed it.  They give it to you with a soft loaf of sweet bread called 'brioche' and you put the granita on pieces of it and eat it...O M G it is so good.  I opted out of eating the bread, The granita is probably not Whole30 approved but I made an exception today because once we are home, I will never have granita again.  Thank you Sicily, for the decadent granita that I have come to love...and cherish...my mouth will miss you.

I hope you enjoy the pictures, for 30 minutes I don't think her little feet stopped for more that 5 seconds at a time...she LOVES running about and seeing Eric and I follow her around.  She likes to stare at old people and likes picking up leaves and trying to eat them. She is the absolute best!!! Happy Tuesday to you all. :)

This is her "follow me!" face

Look at that deliciousness. The Almond granita almost tastes like
frozen horchata. Heaven in my mouth!!!
