When In Rome...Do as the Romans do. Kind of.

hello lovelies, how is everyone this fine summer day/evening/morning?  Over here it is pretty hot...the summer just kind of sneak attacks you here and all of a sudden it is 100 degrees by 9 in the morning.  We had a little adventure this week! And by little I mean big...we had to send our two dogs home to California, as we will be moving back home for good (yay!!!) in the next month.  They had to fly out of Rome, which for us meant that we had to take the Ferry across the Strait of Messina to the bottom of the boot of mainland Italy.  This is about a 30 minute cross over the ocean...not bad at all.  From there we had to drive up the Coast to Rome which was about an 8 hour drive, and this is without stops for the dogs to go out to pee and a little one year old strapped in the back...she did so good though!! she slept most of the way there, as we had to leave at 2am.  The way back wasn't so easy...she got really fussy a few times, but not bad for an 8 hour drive in 100 degree heat!!  On the way back we decided to make a quick stop and see the Colosseum since we were only 10 minutes away.  However, it so happens we were attempting this on the busiest day during the week, Wednesday.  If the Pope is in town this is when he comes out on his tower thing and waves to the masses....so 10 minutes away turned into 1 hour. Anyways, we managed to snap a few pics and stop for a cold beer...it was pretty unbearable in the heat especially with Zoe strapped to my back, lets just say drenched in sweat is an understatement!  After this we headed on the long drive home back to the Ferry back to Sicily...we got home around 11pm.  I can happily say the dogs are safe and sound with DH's parents,  it was quite an ordeal when they picked them up at the airport though, I won't get into that too much....but I don't know what we would do without them! They are by far the most awesome in laws i could ever have asked for.  Hop on over to Lap Dog Knits. This is my mother in law, and she has a couple pictures of them safe and sound, in California...waiting for us.

Ferry gate coming down so we can begin our journey...3am
